An NSF-funded postdoctoral fellow position is available immediately to work=
on the mechanisms=20
of programmed cell death control in Arabidopsis thaliana by a family of con=
proteases called metacaspase. Recent genetic and biochemical studies have =
involvement of some members of this protease family in regulating plant cel=
l death activation=20
by oxidative stresses=2C and the importance of posttranslational mechanisms=
their activity in vitro and in planta. Molecular=2C genetic and biochemica=
will now be deployed to further dissect the structural basis of these regul=
atory functions. =20
In particular=2C a novel RNA-display technology developed in our collaborat=
or Dr. Rihe Liu's
laboratory at UNC Chapel Hill (North Carolina) will be used to delineate th=
degradome candidates downstream from metacaspases. Applicants should have =
a recent PhD in
molecular genetics=2C preferably with experience in Arabidopsis. Ability t=
o carry out=20
experimental work independently is essential and an interactive personality=
highly desirable. =20
