Postdoctoral Position in Plant RNA Biology
University of Tennessee, Knoxville

A postdoctoral position is available in the von Arnim lab at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The successful candidate will join an NSF-funded group investigating the regulation of gene expression at the level of protein synthesis (translation) with a focus on Arabidopsis. Global analyses of translation have revealed that the mRNAs in the Arabidopsis transcriptome are organized into regulons of translational control. Recent work uncovered that translation is under the control of the circadian clock. At the core of the future research is to understand how light and clock signals are integrated to regulate the translatability of mRNAs. The lab is also interested how translational control contributes to developmental regulation, including in stem cells. For recent publications see Missra, Ernest, et al., Plant Cell 10.1105/tpc.15.00546 (in production); Zhou et al., PLoS One 9:e95396 (2014), Tiruneh et al., BMC Biology 11:123 (2013), Roy and von Arnim, The Arabidopsis Book e0165 (2013).

Qualifications include a PhD in a relevant field, and demonstrated experience backed by peer-reviewed publication in plant genetics, RNA biology, or computational systems biology. The research environment at UT is enhanced by departmental strengths in plant science and structural biology (see bcmb.utk.edu), by the nearby Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the resident National Institute for Mathematical-Biological Synthesis. Knoxville is a diverse community with well curated urban, campus, and natural elements.

Your application should be emailed as a single pdf file to vonarnim from utk.edu<mailto:vonarnim from utk.edu> and should include a brief cover letter highlighting motivation and relevant experience, a CV with list of publications, and contact information for three references. Informal inquiries are welcome. The position is available immediately. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled.

The University of Tennessee is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action institution under Title VI/Title IX/Section 504/ADA/ADEA in the provision of its education and employment programs and services.
