A PhD student position is available starting September 2011 in the
Plant Stress Signaling group at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência
located near Lisbon, Portugal (http://www.igc.gulbenkian.pt). The 3-
year position is part of a Marie Curie International Training Network
integrated by ten European Laboratories. Mobility of the applicant is
required and applicants that have worked in Portugal before are not
eligible. For details, please check:
http://www.uu.nl/faculty/science/EN/organisation/depts/biology/research/merit/Pages/default.aspx

Research in the lab focuses on energy signaling and its connection to
environmental changes and growth. The Arabidopsis SnRK1 protein
kinases play a central role during the stress response and are
required for the proper integration of environmental cues into growth
and development. The PhD project aims at further dissecting and
understanding SnRK1-mediated signaling through the elucidation of the
regulatory mechanisms associated with SnRK1 action, with an emphasis
on its modulation by upstream phosphatases.

Applicants should have a degree in Biology, Biotechnology,
Biochemistry or a related discipline, with excellent communication
skills. Experience on plant research, molecular biology, and
traditional biochemistry techniques is a plus. Interested candidates
should send before June 30th their CV, a letter of motivation with a
brief description of previous activities, and 2-3 letters of reference
to ebaena from igc.gulbenkian.pt.
