Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Root Hair Development (vacancy ref. 9322)
___________________________________________
This three year post, funded by the BBSRC, will investigate the role of
ROP (Rho-of-plants) proteins and ROP regulators in root hair development.
You will have the opportunity to make rapid progress using protein
interaction and ROP regulation assays, existing and new jellyfish
fluorescent protein fusions, existing single and double mutants (Plant Cell
2000, 12: 1961-1974), existing and new transgenic lines, and PCR assays for
gene expression.

The post will be supported by a full-time grade D technician and there is
an associated BBSRC-funded PhD studentship. Dr Grierson's research group
work in a suite of well-equipped laboratories containing all of the
facilities required for the project including dedicated molecular biology,
light microscopy, plant growth, and tissue culture facilities.

You should have a PhD and expertise in relevant techniques. You will need
to have good organisational skills including the ability to schedule and
prioritise a large project. You will also need to be reliable and
approachable, and communicate well with students, research staff, and
others within the School. The following would be advantageous but are not
essential: experience of overseeing the work of others, experience of
protein interaction and/or Rho family GTPase assays, experience of high
resolution fluorescence microscopy, experience of molecular biology, a
genuine enthusiasm for genetics, cell biology, and/or development, and any
other knowledge or experience relevant to the project.
