Postdoctoral Position

A 2 years postdoctoral position is open at INRA, Versailles, France,
in the "Meiosis and Recombination" laboratory. The main focus of our
group is centred on deciphering the mechanisms of mitotic and meiotic
recombination in the model plants Arabidopsis thaliana and
Physcomitrella patens. The postdoctoral project aims to improve
understanding of the control of the formation and the position of DNA
double-stranded breaks created by the meiotic AtSPO11-1 protein which
initiates meiotic recombination. Two complementary approaches will be
pursued. The first one will concentrate on the targeting of meiotic
double strand breaks in Arabidopsis thaliana using a fusion between
AtSPO11-1 and the DNA binding domain of the Gal4 protein. This
strategy has been successful in S. cerevisiae (Pecina, Smith, Mezard
et al, Cell, 2002, 11, 173-184). With the second approach, we will
try to identify the partners of the AtSPO11-1 protein. A mutant
Arabidopsis family containing a T-DNA insertion in one of the
potential partners of AtSPO11-1 will be analysed.
The successful candidate will join an important institute of
geneticists and molecular biologists working on plant reproduction
and will benefit from the various tools and materials available and
developed in the institute: insertional mutants of the Versailles
collection of T-DNA transformants, FSTs of this collection, strong
cytology, molecular biology and genetics expertise (Mercier et al.,
Development, 2003, 130, 3309-18; Grelon et al., EMBO, 2001, 20,
589-600). A background in molecular biology and genetics will be
appreciated.
Applicants should not be French. Salary range : 1530-2100 =A4/month,
depending on experience.

interests, curriculum vitae and addresses of two referees to
