Postdoctoral position - Plant Molecular Genetics

Applications at the level of Research Associate or Research Fellow are
invited for a five year, fixed-term appointment in the Faculty of
Agriculture, The University of Western Australia, in the use of molecular
genetics for breeding of canola and other crops. Candidates are asked to
nominate in their application the level of appointment for which they wish
to be considered.

The successful candidate will join an expanding research group in molecular
plant breeding. Research underway includes development of gene-specific
molecular markers, gene expression in host-parasite interactions,
interspecific crossing and doubled haploidy in a wide range of crops and
native plants. A key responsibility for the appointee will be to
participate within the plant breeding team to develop molecular markers for
Canola Breeders Western Australia Pty Ltd. CBWA is a new company comprising
The University of Western Australia, Export Grains Centre Ltd and Council
of Grain Grower Organisations Ltd. The appointee will have an interest and
willingness to support plant breeding within a commercial environment to
meet CBWA's vision of a prosperous independent and sustainable Western
Australian canola industry based on specifically adapted varieties. The
appointee will also have the opportunity to conduct independent molecular
genetics research and contribute to teaching programmes. Appointment to the
level of Research Fellow will include the opportunity to co-supervise
researchers and postgraduate students in a new ARC linkage grant
'Exploiting the Arabidposis genome sequence as a molecular toolbox for
Brassica improvement.' Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent in a field
relevant to plant molecular genetics. Experience in the use of molecular
markers in plant breeding and familiarity with Brassica and/or Arabidopsis
molecular genetics is desirable. In addition, applicants for the level of
Research Fellow will be expected to demonstrate commitment to and
achievement in research in the field of molecular genetics in plant
breeding, capacity to seek research resources and to participate in the
supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students and other

SALARY RANGE:	Research Associate Level A $36,601 - $49,669 p.a.

SALARY RANGE:	Research Fellow Level B $52,285 - $62,090 p.a.
