I would like to draw your attention to GARNet, the Genomic Arabidopsis

GARNet, the Genomic Arabidopsis Resource Network is now in its second
GARNet is funded by the BBSRC for a period of 3 years, to establish
services and resources for functional genomics. After this, GARNet will
continue on a full cost recovery basis.
GARNet was established primarily for Arabidopsis research, but when
possible, also other plant species will be given access to GARNet resources,
to benefit from the tools created. GARNet is UK based, but access to its
services and resources is open to all, and the information created as part
of GARNet will be stored in public databases held at the Nottingham Arabidopsis
Stock Centre, and at the John Innes Institute.

Access to GARNet is via the web site at <A

Application forms to request access to the different services that are
available can be found at this web site. The GARNet Steering Committee
prioritizes these requests.

In each of the years that GARNet is funded, we will be organizing a
functional genomics meeting.
The second functional genomics meeting will take place on September
27 and 28, at the University of York in the UK.

The speakers thus far invited for this meeting are:
- Stacey Harmer
- Ken Birnbaum

Forward and Reverse Genetics:
- John C. Walker
- Cathie Martin
- J. L. Riechmann
- Ray Elliott
- Jacques Joyard

We are looking for speakers from among the users of the different GARNet
services (available to date: proteomics, metabolomics, large insert library
screening: GeTCID) but also from among people who have used tools and resources
for functional genomics available elsewere.
When more speakers have been identified, they will be listed on the
GARNet web site. If you would like to present a talk at the GARNet meeting,
please submit the registration form, and tick the box 'oral presentation'.

The registration form for this meeting in now available at: <A
Registration for this meeting is possible until 05/09/01.

We have a limited number of reduced registration fees available for
PhD students, that will be handed out on a first come, first serve basis.

Please avoid disappointment, and register early for this meeting. Last
year we were booked to capacity, and we had to refuse a few people.

all the best,
