I would like to find out the influence of codon usage upon transgene
expression in Arabidopsis.
Of the 279 amino acids in the transgene, 11are represented by triplets
that, in Arabidopsis, have a codon usage of 10% or less for a particular
amino acid. Arginine, encoded by CGC, accounts for 6 of these 11 amino
acids. In Arabidopsis, this codon encodes only 10% of the total number
What impact could this have on transgene translation, both in terms of
the low codon utilization frequency as well as the frequent occurrence
of a single codon with low usage (i.e. 6 arginines)?
