Postdoctoral position

At the GSF National Research Center
(http://www.gsf.de/gsf/englisch/index.html) we offer a position for a
postdoctoral biologist or biochemist.

White-rot fungi like Phanerochaete chrysosporium are able to detoxify and
degrade recalcitrant organic pollutants. The proposed project aims to
investigate this potential at the molecular level in order to establish a
basis for its biotechnological exploitation. Using differential expression
analyses based on cDNA microarrays the successful candidate will be able to
identify fungal genes encoding enzymes involved in detoxification. A
Phanerochaete cDNA library has been already constructed to serve as a basis
for an EST microarray. Functional tests of putative degrading or regulatory
enzymes will be performed in transgenic fungi. In parallel to this
molecular genetic part there is opportunity to develop and optimize the
biotechnology in lab-scale bioreactors.

Applicants should hold a recent Ph.D. in biology or chemistry, advanced
knowledge and skills in molecular biology are required. Individuals who
combine enthusiasm for basic science and the ability to collaborate in a
team with an interest in applied biotechnology are invited to send their
application (c.v. and names/ Addresses of 2 references) to
