NOTTINGHAM ARABIDOPSIS STOCK CENTRE (NASC)
BIOINFORMATICIAN (COMPARATIVE GENOMICS)
Applications are invited for the above post, funded by the BBSRC to
continue and extend the development of AGR (Arabidopsis Genome Resource) -
the model organism node of UKCropNet - a multisite and multi-organism
collaborative project incorporating NASC, the John Innes Centre, IGER and
the SCRI. The aims and current achievements of this collaboration are
available on the WWW at: http://synteny.nott.ac.uk. AGR and UKCropNet
provide scientists engaged in genome mapping with access to primary data
and appropriate software for analysis, interpretation and display. NASC
also encourage and empower the community to contribute to the curation of
these central data repositories.
This post requires a community-oriented bioinformatician with a desire to
participate in a collaborative project. A background in comparative genome
analysis will be an advantage, as would familiarity with the mapping
community and ACeDB. A working knowledge of PERL and some database
management is also required. This post could suit an individual with
significant and appropriate experience in either computing OR comparative
biology with the potential to integrate these.
Salary will be within the range 16,655 - 20,867 per annum (under review),
depending on qualifications and experience. This post is available
immediately and will be offered on a fixed-term contract until 30 June
