Dear Baio,

There are at least seventeen genetic loci involved in root-hair development of
which seven are published. I am currently writing up the others. Known genes
affect the number and location of initiation events, the size of initiation
sites, and the shape of root hairs formed during tip growth.

Schiefelbein JW, Somerville C (1990) Genetic control of root hair development
in Arabidopsis thaliana. Plant Cell 2: 235-243

Schiefelbein J, Galway M, Masucci J, Ford S (1993) Pollen-tube and root-hair

alters root-hair initiation through an auxin-associated and

Grierson CS, Roberts K, Feldmann KA & Dolan L (1997) The COW1 locus of
Arabidopsis acts after RHD2, and in parallel with RHD3 and TIP1, to determine
the shape, rate of elongation and number of root hairs produced from each site
