Some time ago I asked the network two questions regarding promoters.
Chris Somerville requested I post the answers I received. I neglected
to do that, but am happy to summarize what I learned from the network.
First, I asked about the "herbicide safener induced" promoter
from DuPont - whether anyone had used it, and how it worked, etc. I
received no replies from anyone saying that had used it or were using it.
I was put in touch with H. Hershey at DuPont, however, from whom one
can obtain this promoter (theoretically). He says, although it is a
maize promoter, that it works in Arabidopsis. I refer others to Hershey
and their article about cloning the gene (in PMB, 1991) for further
information - unless someone wants to add to this.
Second, I asked for promoters to drive antisense RNA expression
late in seed development in Arabidopsis. I received a number of replies
for this, with suggestions of using the oleosin promoter, the phaseolin
promoter (which would not work through desiccation). Terry Thomas offered
a carrot lea promoter, and Ruth Finkelstein offered an Arabidopsis lea promoter. If you need any more information about any of this please contact me.
