Breakthrough in increasing lifespan of human cells

Dear Jurgen,

I understand that the scientific data has been published in Science last
week. I have not seen the scientific paper yet, but if the newspaper
reporrts are at all accurate, then this work is compelling evidence that
the telomere length determines cellular lifespan.

Whether this will be reflected in the lifespan of the whole organism is
not yet clear. To make somatic cells immortal may well increase the
risk of cancer substantially!
