Are you interested in doing some molecular gerontology research?
We have a three-year post doctoral position, funded by a grant from the
Danish Medical Council, available immediately, to undertake studies on the
molecular mechanisms of ageing of human bone cells.
The position is affiliated with Aarhus University Hospital, Aarhus, Denmark
(Principal Investigator Dr. M. Kassem, MD, PhD; co-investigator: Dr. S.
Rattan, PhD, DSc) and is subject to the normal Danish regulations of
temporary job positions. Annual salary is between DKr 270K and 300K; which
is about 40-50K US dollars before tax).
Our research project is to use extensively the cellular ageing system of
human trabecular fibroblasts (which we have fully characterised in the last
few years) which show the typical Hayflick phenomenon in vitro, for
elucidating the reasons and mechanisms for the loss/reduction in their
function in terms of bone formation. The aim of these studies is to find
out reasons for the slower bone replacement with age which can result into
severe bone loss and osteoporosis. Therefore, we are looking for a person:
- having a PhD/MD or equivalent degree;
- having great interest in the biology of ageing;
- able to apply independently standard methods of molecular biology
(Northern, Southern, Western, PCR etc);
- having some experience of working with human (or other mammalian) cells
in culture (both normal mortal, and immortalized cells).
Socially, we wish for a person able to interact with an international team
of researchers, several Danish students at various stages in their MSc/PhD
studies; along with entering into the wonderful Danish life.
If you are interested, please send your CV, list of publications, a brief
statement of your research interests, and names/addresses/telephone/fax
numbers etc for at least two scientists whom we may wish to contact.
Please do it as soon as possible at the following address:
