I would agree. I arrived within this group thinking it would be exactly
such a creature and found many sci-fi postings. My thought was that a
group had been started among the real groups, aka, bionet.software,
bionet.xtallography, etc, when it should have resided in the alt.
catagory.
On that note, I am interested in the AGE-1 gene of C. elegans, its
sequence, function, and structure. I do not have the wherewithall to
search for an analog in mice (I'd really have to do some tap-dancing with
my PI to convince him it might be of interest). Tom Johnson, of UC
Boulder, found that if this gene is knocked out in C. elegans, they live
about 50% to 70% longer. Granted, C. elegans is a simple organism in
comparison to mice, but nevertheless, it might be interesting to see what
happens to knockout mice for an analog to AGE1.
